After nearly two months of official operation, Metro Line 1 from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien will be officially inaugurated on March 9th. This announcement was confirmed by the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) in an urgent letter sent to related units.

The inauguration ceremony is set to take place at the area above Ben Thanh Station – 23/9 Park in District 1, with the participation of 500 to 700 delegates, including high-ranking officials from both Vietnam and Japan. According to MAUR, this event not only marks an important milestone in the development of public transport in Ho Chi Minh City but also commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan Festival, demonstrating the strong friendship between the two nations.

The inauguration of Metro Line 1 also coincides with the 12th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee (2025 – 2030 term), the 14th National Congress of the Party, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), and the 8th Ho Chi Minh City Emulation Congress. As a reminder, Metro Line 1 from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien officially began operations on December 22, 2024. During the first month, residents can travel for free, after which ticket prices will range from 6,000 to 20,000 VND per trip, depending on the distance. This metro line operates daily from 5 AM to 10 PM, with a frequency of 8 to 12 minutes per train. Each train can carry a maximum of 930 passengers. Since commencing operations, Metro Line 1 has averaged 177 trips per day, transporting 76,142 passengers, which is approximately 431 passengers per train, generating an average revenue of over 1 billion VND daily. This is the first subway line constructed and put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City, spanning 19.7 km and connecting the central District 1 with the eastern areas such as Binh Thanh and Thu Duc City. Following Metro Line 1, Ho Chi Minh City is also advancing the Metro Line 2 project from Ben Thanh to Tham Luong, which is expected to break ground in 2026. By The Anh
