Antony’s Future at Manchester United: Insights from His Agent Amid Successful Loan at Real Betis

Antony’s agent has shared insights about the winger’s future with Manchester United as he enjoys a promising loan spell at Real Betis.

The Brazilian joined Betis in January after facing challenges at Old Trafford under manager Ruben Amorim and previous boss Erik ten Hag. Since arriving from Ajax in August 2022 for a substantial fee of €100 million (£85.5 million), Antony has scored only 12 goals for United.

In contrast, Antony has already surpassed his goal tally from last season during his time at Betis, having scored just once for United in the 2024/2025 season compared to two goals in three appearances for the La Liga club.

His agent, Junior Pedroso, commented on Antony’s progress in Spain, noting that he has found more “freedom” in his play—something echoed by fellow loanee Jadon Sancho when speaking to Marcus Rashford, who was loaned out to Aston Villa during the same transfer window.

“This early success is possible because Antony is so, so happy,” Pedroso told GiveMeSport. “He’s really happy, and you can feel that on and off the pitch.”

“He has adapted very quickly, which is crucial—it means we could select the best option for him.”

When discussing why Antony chose to join Betis, he explained: “When we began planning Antony’s temporary transfer, we knew it would be a short-term project. Our main concern was for him and his family to adapt quickly and find a style of play that would enhance his skills.”

“Everyone agreed that Betis would be the ideal destination. Spanish football significantly enhances Antony’s technical and physical attributes, allowing him more freedom to utilize his skills effectively in attack. That’s why we agreed, and Manchester United also approved it.”

“I can tell you that other clubs in England were interested in Antony; he had opportunities to remain in the Premier League. However, we felt that Real Betis was the best choice for him. I can also reveal that clubs from the Saudi Pro League approached us for possible moves, but Spain was the best fit for the player.”

Regarding Antony’s future at Old Trafford, Pedroso added: “Antony has great respect for Amorim, but we recognized in January that his time at the club wasn’t ideal. Manchester United also agreed that a loan was the best chance for him to regain his form.”

“Football is very dynamic; there are no long-term plans. There may still be more chapters in his story with Manchester United, or there might not be. This will depend on various factors, including decisions by the club and Antony in the near future.”
